iMedia Connection has an interesting article about open source marketing, which they define as:

With open source software, developers collaborate to make a compelling piece of software. Likewise, an open source marketing plan should develop a compelling marketing campaign that leverages the talents of the marketing community and, increasingly, the product's own customers.
This aligns with the sustainable marketing community's ideas of transparency and corporate responsibility. And it also ties into the trend of customers having more power than ever.

But I wonder if it will really work - open source software is usually coded by programmers, for programmers to solve a particular problem. However, even people in the open source community are recognizing the importance of marketing and trying to integrate it into their project plans. What do you think would be the advantages of open source, or transparent, or community marketing?
